This course will provide a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to the management of running-related injuries.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this 3-contact hour course, the participant will be able to:
- Synthesize and apply evidence related to effective management strategies for running-related injuries.
- Evaluate the importance of various clinical and contextual factors in decision-making for both clinical management and return-to-running programs.
- Understand testing procedures (i.e. 2-D running analysis), current best practices, and clinical research related to prevention of running-related injuries.

Course Presenter:
Nate Bower PT, DPT, SCS is the founder and sole physical therapist at Uncommon Physical Therapy LLC located in Birmingham, Alabama. He is residency-trained, and board-certified in sports physical therapy, with special interests in prevention, performance, and recovery as it relates to the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle.
Nate has practiced in the Birmingham area for over a decade. He earned his doctorate at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, completed a Sports Physical Therapy Residency at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and shortly after obtained his board-certification as a Sports Clinical Specialist.
For the better part of his career, Nate was a part of the team at Champion Sports Medicine, and through that experience was fortunate to have developed many meaningful relationships with world-renowned physical therapists, physicians and athletic trainers. He has worked with athletes at all levels, has aided in the development of continuing education courses for staff, has implemented special interest programs for running-related injuries and ACL injuries in the community, and has served as Team Specialist for Samford University.
In his current role, he is the owner of Uncommon Physical Therapy LLC, and was just recently named the Sports Medicine Director of the Briarwood Soccer Club. He remains active in academics, serving as both a lecturer and lab assistant in the UAB DPT Program, and is currently involved in clinical research within the UAB health system.
